What does cars mean to people?

https://images.hgmsites.net

The article/video/etc published in Axle Addict titled The Automobile - Effects / Impact on Society and Changes in Cars Made by Generation demonstrates this economic principle because it shows the positive and negatives of cars on society

First, before cars were massed produced in the 1920’s, cars were rare and only be affordable to the rich. However, the article mentions “ The more widely used automobiles became, the more they began to affect the daily lives of Americans… The urban housewife of 1925 who could do well without a car was transformed into the suburban housewife of 1960 who required a car to do all her shopping or to pick up the kids after school.” Cars made lives much easier to do everyday activities. However, this means that “old beliefs and unity” were mostly forgotten. People became more independent thus affecting the choices they make on buying cars.

Second, this change in society leads to more innovations. When the cars were massed produced in the 20’s, people are finding more and more ways to be more efficient and convenient. Other modes of transportation had to be pushed aside in order to make room for the more comfortable and convenient automobile. Bicycles, railroads, and horses were among the most affected by the automobile’s sudden popularity in the 20’s.” Simpler things like bicycle were considered obsolete. Horses and carriages were also decreased. Firefighters had a hard time converting over to vehicles in their fire trucks, because cars were expensive and didn’t have the friendship firefighters had with the horses- as mentioned in one of Jay Leno’s garage YouTube mentions.

Third, as cars become more and more common, people began taking in more pride in their ride. The article mentions “Some people wanted the fastest car and some wanted the prettiest, but all drivers had one thing in common. They used their cars for fun and not just as a tool of transportation.” This puts pressure on the car manufactures. Different cars affects different people choices and therefore affecting the economy. Some people may love Japanese race cars but another group of people may adore American muscle. Yet, cars affects the landscape as well. The article argues that big trucks started to transport goods in the 60’s. This means that highways are built to make these transportation more efficient. Cars have became a staple in our society.

In my next blog post I will research: What will cars look like in the future?
