Fueling our cars

The article published in Science Daily titled “Alternative Fuel Vehicle” demonstrates this economic principle because it shows that in different countries, there are different laws about protecting the environment.

First, companies are finding different ways to make cars more efficient and faster at the same time. Today, cars have never been so advanced. In the article, it mentions . ¨ A solar car is an electric vehicle powered by solar energy obtained from solar panels on the car… A hydrogen car is an automobile which uses hydrogen as its primary source of power for locomotion.¨ These may have been around for a little while, but only recently has rules have become more strict, mainly to protect the environment. Companies like Honda has been making hydrogen fuel cell cars but with a high price tag.

Second, many manufacturers have been moving to hybrids and maybe hydrogen fuel cells. One of the biggest reasons why is because ¨Due to a combination of heavy taxes on fuel, particularly in Europe, tightening environmental laws, particularly in California, and the possibility of further restrictions on greenhouse gas emissions, work on alternative power systems for vehicles has become a high priority for governments and vehicle manufacturers around the world.¨ This can bring up the car prices but by making cars more efficient, governments hope to terminate the conventional gas powered engine or at least try to lower the production to help the environment.

Third, all these technology may have a problem. Cars with hydrogen fuel cells or solar power won't go the distance with one charge. Electric and hybrid cars may go a longer distance but charging every time it runs out of battery may be a problem for people who prefer the traditional gas powered engine. Electric cars may have the same or more mileage than the typical gas powered cars, fixing and buying these cars can be expensive. Tesla sold their Model X P100D for well over 100 thousand dollars and hydrogen cars are mostly on prototype form. Also, Tesla´s cars, specifically the Model X, has many loose parts. This can cost consumers to spend thousands of dollars to spend on a car they already spent a fortune on. In the end, consumers may be paying for a less luxurious car for more mileage to their car per trip.
