The economic principle I will be focusing on is that people generally respond to incentives in predictable ways. My research question is "What are the effects of blood transfusions and can they be catastrophic?"  The article I will be using was published by Rachel Nall which is titled "Transfusion Reactions." I feel that this will help my research question because it discusses the side effects of blood transfusions and the process for them as well.

Blood transfusions are used commonly for red blood cells, plasma, and platelets. Nall states that "This sample will be sent to a laboratory for typing and cross matching. Typing is when the lab determines blood type. Cross matching is testing to determine if your blood is compatible with a donor's blood of the same type." Knowing your blood type is important considering that the cells and proteins need to be the same if you are receiving donated blood. If you have received the wrong blood donation, your immune system will attack those "foreigner" cells and deteriorate them. Transfusion reactions side effects include: back pain, dark urine, chills, dizziness, fainting, fever, shortness of breath, and itching. Usually these side effects are cause by new blood cells adjusting to the immune system and cans sometimes attack the cells in your lungs. This is easily treatable with antihistamines. With this information blood donations are very helpful to those who need. This is the final blog post and next I will be concluding on the research I have found.
