What Makes People Visit Yellowstone and What Role Does the Government Have in Incentivizing People to Visit?
Economic Principle: Consumers react to incentives in very predictable.
According to the NPS, about 4 million people visit Yellowstone every year. Why is this? Obviously people visit because of the beauty and other-worldy feel, but what does the government do to keep people coming? Well, according to Billings Gazette, Yellowstone NP is actually underfunded by about 20 million dollars per year. Somehow they still manage. With the amount of visitors exponentially growing, the park spends money on repairing roads, bridges, and campsites to make the experience as easy and comfortable as possible, as well as trying to minimize the amount of motor vehicle accidents by improving the road system. They also fund trash cleanup and overall wildlife conservation to keep the park as natural and pristine as possible for the preservation of the park, and also the enjoyment of visitors.
My next post will be the same question and topic, but with another park, Yosemite NP.
