Why do microtransactions exist?

TITLE: SYNTHESIZING RESEARCH  ON Different companies, and how their games promote
gambling and unhealthy styles of play for children, teens and adults.

The economic principle I researched was People generally respond to incentives in predictable ways.

First, Loot Boxes Tempt, but Also Rile Videogame Players shows this economic principle because
gaming companies provide incentives for players to buy loot boxes. If gaming companies provide
ways for gamers to become better in the game, of course some gamers are going to take that
opportunity to become better so they can always win, and have a higher win ratio.

Second, Activision’s patented method to drive microtransactions with matchmaking Within games
like Call of Duty that are heavy on multiplayer and that also have loot boxes that either help or hurt
gameplay, the matchmaking function is literally broken. A player that is a pro and also buys loot
boxes will most likely be put up against a player that does not have as much experience and that
has not purchased any loot boxes. The companies do this in order to try and encourage the players
that are not as good to buy loot boxes. Therefore, this incentivizes gamers to buy loot boxes in order
to play better against enemies.

Third, Paid Loot Boxes May Not Come Back To 'Star Wars Battlefront 2 In Battlefront 2 there
were many rumors being spread that loot boxes would be removed because of how much the
gaming community was complaining about the first game having the loot boxes. The gaming
community complaining incentivized the company to end up removing the loot boxes before
the game was released. But, after the game was released, the game ended up “fixing” the loot
boxes problem and releasing loot boxes back into the game. That did not fix the problem though.
The loot boxes were just as bad,  and didn't help the game at all.
