Why you attend MLB games

How do MLB franchises incentivize people to go to games?

The economic principle I researched was people generally respond to incentives in predictable ways. MLB teams have been trying to find many ways to incentivize people to go to games.

When people go to games they do not think about the main reason of why they went their. Some people go because they like watching the sport or they are a die hard fan. Others go because they like the free handouts or because it is cheap. With new incentives, baseball is become America’s favorite pastime once again. MLB Teams are using incentives like special promotions, redesigned ballparks, new pricing models, and trying to create winning teams.

As a more hardcore baseball fan I don’t need a incentive to go to games, but most people who attend games are the more casual fan. Bobble head promotions can be effective to bring people who don’t normally come by giving Star Wars or Marvel superhero bobble heads. Also, family discounts allows fans to bring more people with them to games. More advanced stadiums with new ballpark amendities are appealing to a wider amount of people who wouldn’t normally go to games, to attend games.

In this day in age more and more people are willing to attend a baseball games. When casual fans start to build a relationship with the team they are watching then they will become dedicated hardcore fans, which is what MLB franchises are striving for.

“Baseball is a lot like life. It’s full of day to day existence, full of ups and down. You make the most of your opportunities in baseball as you do in life” - Ernie Harwell
